Maria was dizzy, but heard a man come into the kitchen from the back door. She felt a buzzing in her head and knew death was close. Either the gas or the man would kill her. Poor Summer would die too. She remembered that, not long ago, Summer told the group that someone would die. She never dreamed it would be her and Summer.

Then she again heard all the vehicles leave. She had to take a chance they’d actually left this time. She grabbed Summer and started dragging her to the front door. As she got closer, Maria saw the taillights turning onto the highway. They’re gone. Thank God.

Then she saw a car turn off and drive into the woods before it got to the highway. It looked to be completely out of sight. Oh no, must call Mr. Jeff.

Maria was fighting hard to not give up. She wanted to stop and lay down, but she knew she had to warn Case. Then she remembered Bobby was on the way to the ranch. She’d call Bobby first.

It was extremely hard to keep her eyes open. She opened the door and dragged Summer onto the front porch. Maria left the door open, knowing the gas needed to get out of the house. She pulled Summer to the side of the porch, away from the door. She knew it could explode, but she was exhausted. Maria lay down with Summer in her lap. She pulled out her phone and started to dial Bobby. Then everything went pleasantly black.
